THE Katsina State Government has approved the purchase of 30 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses as part of measures to improve public transportation across the state.
Governor Dikko Radda announced the decision while responding to requests from the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsinma, Muhammad Uthman, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Katsina. He said the move underscores his administration’s commitment to tackling transportation challenges and providing affordable, safe, and reliable mobility for residents, particularly students.
According to the governor, the buses will be strategically deployed across major towns to reduce transport costs and ease congestion. He explained that some of the buses would serve Daura to support students of higher institutions, while others would be assigned to Malumfashi, Funtua, and Dutsinma.
Radda noted that transportation remains a key component of the state’s development agenda, especially for students who rely on regular and affordable movement to pursue their education. He added that each bus can carry up to 100 passengers, a capacity he said would significantly ease the transportation burden on students of the Federal University Dutsinma and the general public.
“Our aim is to ensure that students can move safely and conveniently, without transportation becoming a barrier to learning,” the governor said.
On a separate request by the Vice-Chancellor for a tractor, Governor Radda assured that one would be provided to the university upon the completion of due process, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting institutions in ways that enhance academic excellence and student welfare.
In his remarks, Uthman commended the governor for his concern for student wellbeing, describing the approval of the buses as timely. He said the initiative would greatly improve mobility and access to academic activities for students across the state.
