A total of 17 people have now been confirmed dead following the attack by some gunmen on a mosque in Unguwar Mantau Community in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Politics Nigeria had earlier reported that 15 people were killed by the gunmen who invaded the mosque while worshippers prayed.
The gunmen were said to have sprayed their bullets on the worshippers on Tuesday during the attack.
However, speaking on the incident, Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command said the death toll from the mosque attack has risen to 17.
According to Sodiq, 15 people were fatally hit by bullets while seven others were injured during the attack.
He said that two out of those who were in critical condition succumbed to their injuries at the hospital where they were receiving medical treatment.
“Fifteen people fatally shot, seven injured, later while receiving treatment at the hospital, two out of the seven succumbed to their injuries,” Sadiq stated.
