THE Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested eight suspects in connection with the attack on its outpost at Koraman Nayalli in Katsina metropolis.
The command’s spokesperson, Buhari Hamisu, confirmed the arrests to newsmen yesterday.
He explained that the incident followed a protest by a group of miscreants over a raid that led to the death of a suspected drug peddler identified as Uzairu, also known as ‘Dan’kuda’.
According to Hamisu, the protesters, in large numbers, invaded the NSCDC outpost at Koraman Nayalli in the Sabuwar Unguwa area and set the facility on fire.
He said three motorcycles and other properties belonging to the outpost were destroyed during the attack.
He added that the attackers, who were armed, also attempted to access nearby NSCDC and police outposts at Filin Kanada.
Hamisu said personnel of the NSCDC and the police, through their Special Response Squads, were able to contain the situation and restore normalcy in the area.
The Katsina State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Moriki, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Hamisu disclosed that Moriki conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the damaged outpost and set up a seven-man committee to ensure a thorough probe.
The commandant also warned criminals and economic saboteurs to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
