Hon. Salisu Lawal Uli, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Katsina State, has resigned from the party and declared allegiance to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
In a resignation letter dated July 2, 2025, and addressed to the party leadership, Uli cited persistent leadership crises and a lack of internal discipline in the PDP since 2022. He said the party had strayed from its founding principles and could no longer enforce accountability.
“Warning signs became evident when certain members placed themselves above party discipline, regardless of their misconduct,” he wrote.
Uli, a founding PDP member since 1998, said he remained committed to the mission of “liberating Nigeria and Katsina State,” adding that he would now pursue that goal through the ADC, which he described as a more democratic, disciplined, and ideologically driven platform.
His defection adds to a growing wave of exits from the PDP in Katsina, as internal divisions continue to erode the party’s strength.
Recently, a faction loyal to former Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, also left the party. The group included 287 former aspirants and candidates for the State House of Assembly, chairmanship, and councillorship positions.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the Chairman of the Local Government Chairmanship Aspirants’ Forum, Alhaji Yasir Ibrahim, said betrayal and internal deception drove them out.
“The PDP has lost its credibility as an opposition party in Katsina. We are aligning with a new coalition for a stronger political front,” he said.
