New York rapper Kay Flock is moving forward with an appeal after receiving a 30-year prison sentence stemming from a series of shootings that took place between 2020 and 2021.
The 22-year-old artist was sentenced in mid December after being convicted on multiple charges, including racketeering conspiracy, attempted murder, and use of a firearm causing death.
He is also facing five years of supervised release upon his release from prison. His attorney, Michael T. Ashley, said the appeal was always expected, arguing that the sentence was excessive. Court filings show Ashley is asking for a reduction to the statutory minimum of 10 years or an alternative punishment plan.

That proposal includes relocating Flock to Los Angeles, earning a GED, remaining sober and publicly renouncing violence. Prosecutors have strongly opposed any reduction. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael R. Herman previously pushed for a 50-year sentence, citing the seriousness of the crimes and the need to protect the public.
Authorities say the violence was connected to the Sev Side DOA gang, though U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman noted during sentencing that Flock was not the shooter in the incidents.
