THE governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris has confirmed the death of several soldiers involved in counter-banditry operations in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
While he did not specify the number of casualties, the governor made the disclosure during an inspection of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) recently deployed to the state by the Federal Government.
Speaking at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the armed forces and pledged continued assistance to the families of the fallen heroes.
Commanding Officer of the 223 Light Tank Battalion in Zuru, Lt. Colonel Muhammad Saleh, officially presented the military vehicles and commended the state government for its cooperation and support in strengthening operational capacity.
Governor Idris also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other security leaders for prioritising national security and enhancing military presence in vulnerable areas.
“We are grateful for these critical assets, which will help repel further bandit attacks,” he said. “Our people appreciate the sacrifices of our troops and the progress being made.”
He urged residents in affected communities to assist security forces by sharing timely and actionable intelligence, while assuring continued government support for bereaved families.
Also present was Major A.P. Azubuine of the 1 Battalion Rear, Birnin Kebbi, who showcased additional armoured vehicles provided by the Nigerian Army as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security logistics in the state.
