The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has confirmed the loss of soldiers during ongoing military operations against banditry in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, assuring that the state government will stand by the families of the fallen troops.

Naijaonpoint reports that the governor disclosed this on Saturday while inspecting Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) deployed to Kebbi by the Federal Government to enhance counter-banditry efforts.

During the inspection at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Lt. Colonel Muhammad Saleh, Commanding Officer of the 223 Light Tank Battalion, Zuru, presented the new armoured vehicles to the governor.

Governor Idris commended President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other military leaders for prioritising security in the state.

He said, “We are grateful for the deployment of critical military equipment to repel any attack by bandits, especially in our most vulnerable local government areas.

“The government appreciates the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff for sending armoured vehicles to Kebbi. My administration will continue to do everything possible to support the security services in achieving success on the battlefield.”

The governor acknowledged the sacrifices made by security operatives, noting that some troops paid the supreme price while defending residents.

Idris said, “Though we have lost some brave men in combat, we pray for the repose of their souls. Kebbi State will continue to support the families of our fallen heroes to ensure they are not left behind.”

He further praised the military’s dedication to combating banditry, saying many communities have expressed gratitude for the ongoing operations.

Governor Idris urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence to aid counter-banditry missions.

He said, “Our people and I are pleased with the gallantry and performance of the military in combating banditry.

“Communities have been reaching out to acknowledge that security operatives are doing their utmost to eliminate the banditry menace.”

Lt. Colonel Saleh thanked the Military High Command for logistical support, urging the public to share information that would help track criminal elements.

In a related development, Major A.P. Azubuine, Commanding Officer of the 1 Battalion Rear, Birnin Kebbi, also presented two additional armoured vehicles to the governor.
