KEBBI: Govt condoles families of Lakurawa attack victims, police deploy tactical team

In an interview yesterday, Ahmed Idris, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nasir Idris, expressed the governor’s deep concern over the tragic loss of innocent lives. He reassured the public that the government is committed to ensuring justice for the victims.

Confirming the incident, Kebbi State Police Command described it as a regrettable .

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, has visited the affected communities and deployed a tactical squad to combat the Lakurawa bandits.

“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police swiftly mobilized to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. He engaged with security personnel, including the Police, Army, Civil Defense, and vigilante groups, already stationed in the area,” Abubakar stated.

On March 9, 2025, at approximately 8:47 PM, suspected Lakurawa bandits armed with sophisticated weapons attacked multiple villages in Arewa LGA, including Dogon Daji, Danmarke, Yar Goru, Tambo, Birnin Debi, Garin Nagoro, and Garin Rugga.

The assault, which occurred near the Nigeria-Niger Republic border, resulted in the deaths of eleven people, with two others sustaining gunshot wounds. Several homes were also set ablaze.

Following the attack, CP Bello M. Sani promptly assessed the security situation and ordered the deployment of additional tactical units. He called on the new teams to take decisive action against the assailants.

During a meeting with local stakeholders, the Commissioner offered condolences and appealed for public cooperation with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and relevant information.
