The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described Monday’s attack on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as a painful reminder of the worsening security situation in Nigeria under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The ADC said the Kebbi incident is not an isolated event and blamed the incumbent administration for failing to give security the attention it deserves.
The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, extended its deepest sympathies to the family of the Vice Principal who was killed during the brutal attack on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and also wished a quick recovery for the abducted girls.
“We also wish the Principal a swift and complete recovery from the injuries sustained during the assault. Above all, our thoughts and prayers are with the families whose daughters have been abducted. No parent should ever experience the terror of sending a child to school and waking up to unimaginable loss.
“This tragedy is another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across our country. For months, the ADC has begged the Federal Government to confront insecurity with the seriousness and urgency it deserves. We have warned repeatedly that unless decisive action is taken, the nation will continue to witness these heartbreaking incidents. Yet, this government has turned a blind eye to the suffering of ordinary Nigerians, choosing complacency over responsibility.
“What happened in Kebbi is not an isolated event. It is part of a consistent pattern that shows a government that has lost control of the security architecture of the country. Schoolchildren, farmers, commuters, and entire communities have become soft targets for criminals who operate freely without fear of consequence. A government that cannot secure its schools cannot claim any credibility in its promise to protect the Nigerian people,” the statement read.
The ADC further condemned the attack in the strongest terms and called on President Tinubu and the security agencies to respond with urgency, clarity, and competence, noting that the matter should be treated as a national security priority.
The opposition party submitted that the abducted girls must be found and rescued immediately. The government must make this a matter of utmost national security priority.
It likened the Kebbi abduction, which happened on Monday, to the tragic incident of the Chibok girls in 2014, noting that many of the abducted Chibok girls are yet to be recovered more than a decade later, and history must not be allowed to repeat itself.
“We demand that the Federal Government deploys all available intelligence assets, strengthen coordination across security formations, and ensure the girls are brought back home. This is one incident too many. The Tinubu government cannot escape responsibility for this.
“The ADC stands firmly with the people of Kebbi State and all families affected by this horrific incident. We are studying the situation closely, and we will respond accordingly in the coming days,” the party concluded.
