The Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Kente, has said that the Governor joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) would accelerate development in the state.
Kente stated this in Jalingo on Tuesday, stressing that the governor’s possible alignment with the ruling party was a strategic decision aimed at securing Taraba’s place in national development programmes and federal opportunities.
According to the adviser, the move was not about personal ambition or partisan politics but about the collective interest of the people.
He said: “This call is anchored not on partisan interest but on the collective aspiration of the people of Taraba for sustainable progress, infrastructural transformation, and inclusion in national affairs.”
Kente highlighted the governor’s achievements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, saying they deserved stronger federal support.
He argued that aligning with the APC at the national level would give Taraba access to more federal projects and partnerships.
“With the Governor’s alignment to the ruling party, Taraba stands to benefit from increased federal presence such as roads, bridges, hospitals, and power installations, which are currently concentrated in states with stronger federal ties,” Kente said.
He added that security cooperation and donor-funded projects would also be easier to access under such an arrangement.
The political adviser praised Kefas’ leadership since assuming office, insisting that his “Moving Forward Agenda” could have a greater impact if backed by synergy with the Federal Government.
“It is only fitting that such visionary leadership is supported by the enabling political environment at the national level. The times call for bold, strategic decisions that transcend party sentiment in favour of the people’s welfare,” Kente noted.
He urged stakeholders, youth groups and opinion leaders in Taraba to support the governor in what he described as a “realignment for growth and prosperity.”
Naijaonpoint reports that Governor Kefas was elected in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
If he defects, it would mark a significant political shift in Taraba, which has been a PDP stronghold since 1999, effectively ending the party’s 26-year dominance in the state.
In recent months, several individuals and groups have openly called on the governor to join the APC to attract greater federal presence and investments to the state.
