Keyamo: Air Force partnership key to Nigeria’s long-term aviation growth

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has emphasized that Nigeria’s partnership with the Nigerian Air Force is crucial for building a secure and sustainable aviation sector that supports long-term national development.

Speaking at the 4th African Air Forces Forum in Lagos on Friday, Keyamo highlighted how growing synergy between the Ministry and the Air Force is already yielding dividends in areas such as airspace security, infrastructure development, and aviation workforce training.

“This partnership goes beyond military coordination — it is a strategic alliance to shape the future of Nigeria’s air transport sector,” he said. “When we guarantee the safety of our skies, we don’t just protect our nation — we send a powerful message to the world.”

According to the Minister, a secure airspace attracts investment, tourism, and international cooperation. He noted that improved aviation security directly contributes to increased passenger traffic, boosts the hospitality sector, and enhances aviation revenues that drive national GDP growth.

Describing the collaboration as a “powerful synergy,” Keyamo praised the Nigerian Air Force for bringing operational discipline and expertise, while the Ministry provides regulatory leadership and developmental oversight.

“We are not just protecting our skies — we are building an aviation ecosystem that will serve Nigeria for decades to come,” he said.

The Minister also acknowledged the contributions of international partners in supporting Nigeria’s aviation reforms and called for sustained cooperation across all stakeholders.

“Our collective goal is to make Nigeria a beacon of aviation excellence in Africa,” he added.
