Music icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has officially expressed his desire to ascend the vacant throne of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
In the letter, dated December 3, K1 stated his wish to be considered for the position, emphasizing his identity as a bona fide son of the ruling house by tracing his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage. Throughout his five-decade career, he has been dedicated to promoting Ijebu and Yoruba culture through his music.
K1 also mentioned his notable achievements and titles, including being installed as the Mayegun of Yorubaland and receiving the national honor of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).
The letter reads: “I, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, MON, hereby formally notify the Funsengbuwa Ruling House of my intention to be considered for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland, in strict accordance with the provisions of Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.
“I was born on March 3, 1957, and I am a bona fide son of the Funsengbuwa Ruling House of Agunsebi Quarters, tracing my ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage, which qualifies me to present myself for consideration in accordance with established tradition.
“I have dedicated over five decades to promoting Ijebu, Yoruba, and Nigerian culture through music and cultural enterprises.
“Throughout my service, I have received various traditional and national honors, including my installation as Mayegun of Yorubaland (2020) and the national honor of Member of the Order of the Niger (2022). I was also conferred as Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu (2023) by the late Awujale.”
Wasiu Ayinde’s declaration of interest in the throne comes five months after the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona.
