KPop Demon Hunters Becomes Netflix's Fourth Movie Ever To Pass $20M At The Box Office

Netflix‘s record-breaking fantasy hit keeps going up, up, up the studio’s box office charts. Although Netflix has been a pro-streaming studio, it has warmed up in recent months to release several of its original movies in theaters, including the third Knives Out installment, Wake Up Dead Man.

In light of KPop Demon Hunters becoming a global sensation, the studio made the shocking move to release the film in theaters with a sing-along event in late August. After shattering a box office record of $19.2 million, Netflix re-released the movie again during the Halloween weekend.

According to Deadline, KPop Demon Hunters is set to make an additional $3.4 million in 2,890 theaters. It will crack the top 10 box office charts at No. 7. It’s not hitting the same momentum as the first release in August, but this brings the total to $22.4 million. It’s worth noting, however, that these are industry estimates since Netflix doesn’t reveal its box office reports.

As a result, KPop Demon Hunters becomes the fourth Netflix movie ever to cross the $20 million milestone worldwide. While the fantasy hit is the highest-grossing Netflix movie at the domestic box office, it currently ranks at no. 4 in terms of all-time charts.

While it’s rare to find a Netflix movie getting a full release in the United States, it’s a little more common internationally. For instance, 2022’s Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical and 2016’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny had international releases in their respective markets.

According to a chart by The Numbers, both those films and Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon are the only other Netflix films to surpass $20 million at the worldwide box office, with the latter being the studio’s highest-grossing movie.

Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon was not produced by Netflix. It was supposed to get a U.S. theatrical release by Lionsgate before Netflix acquired it and put it up on digital. Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical had a unique deal between Sony and Netflix that allowed it to get a theatrical release in the United Kingdom while going straight to streaming in the United States.

On the other hand, KPop Demon Hunters‘ re-release comes at a crucial time with award season already underway. With Netflix pushing for your consideration for categories like Best Animated Feature and Best Song for “Golden,” it’s possible that the Halloween release is to help their campaign for the fantasy hit.

KPop Demon Hunters first earned a streaming release in June 2025, two months before making its theatrical debut. During that time, the fantasy musical broke numerous streaming and song records, ultimately earning its place in Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular English-language movies and beating out Red Notice for the no. 1 title.

By the end of its 91-day cycle on Netflix, KPop Demon Hunters became the streamer’s most-viewed project ever (across both movies and TV) with 325.1 million views. Even months after its release, the movie remains in the Top 10 charts in the United States despite new movies being dropped by Netflix.

KPop Demon Hunters has yet to get a sequel confirmed by Sony or Netflix, but directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans have expressed interest. Some updates have also hinted that the studios are discussing the movie’s promising future. While this may be the last time audiences can watch Saja Boys and Huntrix in theaters, the film is now streaming on Netflix.
