Netflix’s number one movie, KPop Demon Hunters, is taking over the world, and star Rei Ami (Zoey) has officially addressed rumors of a sequel for the animated smash-hit.
On the red carpet for Heidi Klum’s Halloween bash, Ami (known for her role as Zoey in KPop Demon Hunters) spoke to E! News about a potential sequel. The Korean-American rapper stated that she’s “waiting for the call, just like you! You’re gonna find out when I do, so we’ll chat then.”
KPop Demon Hunters follows the most popular K-pop girl group as they dominate the charts and must defeat a rival boy band of demons to protect the honmoon and save the world from demonic rule. The voice cast includes Arden Cho as Rumi, May Hong as Mira, Ken Jeong as Bobby, and Ahn Hyo-seop as Ji-noo.
Ami continued and stated she hasn’t fully come to terms with the movie’s worldwide popularity. She added, “This is a cultural phenomenon. The records, the headlines – it’s absolutely unprecedented. [I’m] so honored and in awe, and I think I’m just truly humbled by the power of music and good art and how it can really, truly – it sounds so cliché – change the world.”
KPop Demon Hunters is currently Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time due to its viral success and record-breaking soundtrack, with multiple hits currently on the Billboard charts. Netflix released the movie in a limited theatrical release, with $19.2 million at the box office.
There have been rumors of a potential sequel following the worldwide success, but nothing has been cemented. The movie’s producer, Michelle Wong, spoke of a KPop Demon Hunters sequel and said, “We are all very tired [laughs]. But we are excited for the next step.”
Creator and co-director Maggie Kang also addressed the rumors and added that there’s nothing official to talk about, but “there’s definitely more we can do with these characters in this world. And whatever it will be, it will be a story that deserves to be a sequel, and it will be something that we want to see.”
KPop Demon Hunters had 325 million views within 90 days of its release in June 2025. It has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 95% and remains in the minds of fans with hopes that a sequel won’t be too far away.
