Set for a November 2027 release, Frozen 3 is set to continue the story of sisters Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel). Directed by Jennifer Lee, the sequel follows the highly successful Frozen (2013) and Frozen 2 (2019). Fellow cast members Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad are also slated to return.
After being asked by Variety when Frozen 3 is happening, Bell responded: “Soon… that’s all I can say.” The actress then added that she was “under lock and key” and didn’t “know if [she] can say the date.” Despite this, Bell did confirm that she had a date and knows when she started.
The actress has yet to hear any songs, but she has seen the Frozen 3 script. Addressing the high level of secrecy that comes with DIsney projects, Bell explained: “Well, it’s also mostly like concept stuff in the beginning, like ‘here’s where we think it should go’ and then it goes through like a thousand… that’s the one great thing about Disney is that it goes through a thousand filters.“
She then clarified that this was “not to be diplomatic, but because everyone is going to add something different and that’s why the movies play so well.” Per Bell, “they hit every single mark because nothing has been missed.“
Interestingly, her comments about the film beginning its recording process soon come just over a month after Gad confirmed he had not begun recording or heard any songs. The actor, who plays lovable snowman sidekick Olaf, stated: “For me, my whole thing was don’t do a sequel unless there’s a reason to do a sequel. If you have a story worth telling, then call us up and let’s do it. To Jennifer Lee’s credit, she really took that note and gave herself that note and has created something that’s going to be worth the wait.“
Earlier this fall, a synopsis for Frozen 3 reportedly leaked via the official DisneyChina WeChat profile. The plot summary reads: “In this new chapter, witness the wedding of the century in Arendelle as Queen Anna walks down the aisle and joins Elsa on a new magical journey filled with unknown challenges. And what’s even more exciting: the royal family is about to welcome a mysterious new member!”
Given Bell and Gad’s comments as well as this synopsis, it seems that Frozen fans have a lot to look forward to as Frozen 3‘s theatrical debut inches closer and closer.
