Former governor of Kano State and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed deep concern over the escalating wave of killings and kidnappings across the country, calling for urgent and decisive government action.
In a post shared on 𝕏 on Wednesday, Kwankwaso said Nigeria had reached a critical point where the Federal Government must rise to its responsibilities.
The NNPP chieftain condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, saying the incident mirrors a disturbing pattern previously witnessed in the country.
He wrote, “The recent surge in insecurity in Nigeria has reached a level that demands urgent attention from all authorities, especially the Federal Government.
“First, the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State is deeply worrying and echoes a disturbing pattern from the recent past.”
Kwankwaso also condemned the killing of Brigadier-General Musa Uba in Borno State, describing it as one of the darkest moments in Nigeria’s long struggle against terrorism.
“The abduction and subsequent killing of Brigadier General M. Uba by terrorists in Borno State is one of the darkest moments in our nation’s fight against terrorism. This shocking intelligence and operational failure demands an immediate and thorough investigation,” he said.
Kwankwaso lamented reports of mass kidnappings in Zamfara State, describing the development as “heartbreaking,” while urging the swift rescue of victims.
He also raised alarm over a surge in bandit attacks across Shanono and Ghari Local Government Areas of Kano State, calling for urgent government intervention.
“On another front, the recent surge in bandit attacks across Shanono and Ghari Local Government Areas in Kano State demands urgent concern and immediate action,” he noted.
Commends Kano Govt, Urges FG To Reinforce Security Agencies
Kwankwaso applauded the Kano State Government’s prompt response, especially the provision of operational vehicles to security operatives in affected areas.
He pressed the Federal Government to fulfil its constitutional duty, warning that the series of attacks points to a deeper national security setback.
“The Federal Government must fulfil its primary responsibility. These incidents are not isolated; they reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity,” he said.
Kwankwaso urged the authorities to rebuild the country’s security architecture, reinforce the armed forces and empower the Nigeria Police Force to respond more effectively to threats.
“I call on the authorities to take decisive action by reinvigorating our armed forces and empowering the Nigeria Police Force to effectively protect and defend our people from these acts of terror,” he wrote.
