A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Abdulmumin Jibrin, has refused to rule out the possibility that former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, may still join the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Wednesday during a Channels Television interview, Jibrin stated that Kwankwaso has always maintained that his doors are always open to political discussions.

Naijaonpoint reports that the Kano lawmaker maintained that while he is not privy to the political plans of the former Governor, the possibility of the former NNPP presidential candidate teaming up with President Bola Tinubu in the APC is very much open based on earlier statements.

“As far as that [joining APC] is concerned, he has always maintained that his doors are open, our doors are open for discussions. Everything is a possibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kwankwaso recently dismissed speculation that he will leave the NNPP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the party’s 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Kwankwaso stressed that he remained firmly rooted in the party, even though he remained open to dialogue with other political actors.

Naijaonpoint reports that Kwankwaso explained that the meeting was never intended to announce his defection or alignment with other parties.

The former governor said, “Many people thought today we will announce whether I will stay in NNPP or go to another party or join some individuals. That was not the intention of the meeting. We have our party, and we are comfortable and happy.”

He further stated that while the NNPP was not desperate, it remained flexible in engaging with stakeholders.
