Kwankwaso’s nephew, others arrested over ₦347m illegal drug procurement scam

The two, along with five other individuals, were detained in connection with alleged corruption related to the procurement of drugs and medical equipment for the 44 local governments in Kano State.

The commission has also summoned Musa Garba, the Managing Director of Novomed Pharmaceuticals, and the nephew of former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for questioning as part of its ongoing investigation.

According to the PCACC, the arrested officials are suspected of violating the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law, the Public Procurement Law, and the Financial Management Law.

The allegations center around a contract for supplying drugs and medical equipment, which was reportedly awarded in violation of statutory provisions and without obtaining the required consent and approval from Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

A source close to the commission revealed that Abdullahi Ibrahim Bashir, the ALGON Chairman, has admitted to authorizing an illegal payment of N402.6 million for the procurement. Of this amount, N347.7 million was allegedly paid by 38 of the state’s local governments before the Commission initiated its investigation.

“These actions were in direct violation of the law,” said the source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the investigation. “They bypassed necessary protocols and proceeded with the contract without proper authorization.”

As of 11:15 AM yesterday, the arrested officials were still in custody at the commission’s office, undergoing intensive questioning by PCACC operatives.

The PCACC has vowed to continue its investigation and to ensure that all those involved in the alleged corruption are held accountable.

“We are determined to hold everyone involved in this illegal activity accountable,” the source added.
