KWARA: Army refutes claims of bandits overrunning troops

The Nigerian Army has denied reports circulating online that bandits overpowered its troops in Obanla, Kwara State, and escaped with six General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) and more than 30,000 rounds of ammunition.

“Contrary to the sensational claims, the troops mounted a strong blocking position along the Kwara–Ekiti border axis, where they neutralized two armed bandits and recovered two brand new AK-47 rifles,” Okoye explained.

He dismissed the online report as “a fabrication designed to mislead the public and undermine the morale of gallant troops,” insisting that no Army positions were overrun and no cache of weapons was lost.
