KWARA: Ex-federal controller of works murdered, police investigate

Reports reveal that Ajani was attacked by four young men who trailed him to his home in the Tanke area around 3 pm, shortly after his family returned from Offa, their hometown, where they celebrated the New Year.

The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident yesterday.

“Yes, the incident happened. I can confirm that a retired Controller of Works was killed in Tanke area on Wednesday. Police have commenced an investigation into the matter,” she stated.

Ejire-Adeyemi further noted that while no arrests have been made, efforts are ongoing to uncover those responsible for the crime.

A family member, speaking anonymously, revealed that the assailants appeared casual as they entered the compound.

CCTV footage reportedly captured two of them standing near the gate, with one sipping water from a plastic bottle, while the others walked into the compound.

Ajani, upon noticing the men from a sitting room, approached the main door to meet them. Initially, they seemed to engage in conversation before the situation escalated, leaving him face down.

An eyewitness described the horrific scene: “The late Engineer was attacked and hacked to death in the presence of his wife and children upon returning from Offa. There are blood stains on the walls, and his brain matter is scattered on the floor.”

Sympathizers have since thronged Ajani’s residence, while police teams have visited the scene to gather evidence.

Ajani retired from the Federal Ministry of Works four years ago but had taken on a contract role in 2024.
