Kwara, Plateau govs felicitate PUNCH @50

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and his counterpart in Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, respectively, have congratulated the management and staff of PUNCH Nigeria Limited, on its 50th anniversary.

PUNCH, Nigeria’s foremost newspaper, clocked 50 on March 18 last year but its board of directors moved the 50th-anniversary celebration to this year because the anniversary month fell within an election month and year.

AbdulRazaq who commended the PUNCH for its exemplary contributions to the Nigerian media industry, described it as one of the best newspaper brands in Africa in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Tuesday.

“The Governor joins the entire country to felicitate the management and staff of the Punch newspapers on the anniversary, which he says is a celebration of excellence, hard work, tenacity of purpose, and consistent commitment to ethical journalism.”

The governor urged the PUNCH to keep the flag flying amidst renewed commitment to national unity, peace and security through robust and ethical media practices.

Recalling its roles in Nigeria’s nation-building efforts, Governor AbdulRazaq commends the PUNCH newspaper for being a reliable partner in the country’s pursuit of a better life for the citizenry and promotion of democratic values, such as free press, human rights, responsible citizenship, and accountable government.

In the same vein, Mutfwang in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Musa Ashoms, applauded the company for its vibrant and impactful media practice over the past five decades.

“Indeed, it has been half a century of vibrant media practice and impactful contributions.

“Your journey laced with hard work, dedication to duty, ethical commitment and doggedness is certainly an inspiration for all.

“No doubt, this 50th anniversary remains an incredible milestone and you deserve the spotlight to celebrate the moment.

“Indeed, the government and the good people of Plateau State under the leadership of “The Time is Now” administration of His Excellency Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is proud to associate with your unique brand of journalism practice.

“It is also proud to highlight its own achievements in road construction and rehabilitation; rejuvenation of rail transport in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis; resuscitation of the state security outfit, Operation Rainbow; provision of fertilizer and other farming inputs; introduction of the Plateau Intelligent Revenue Billing System; and provision of dental equipment to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, among others.
