KWARA United and Rivers Angels secured tense victories today to win the men’s and women’s finals of the Federation Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

In the women’s final decided first, Rivers Angels defeated Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties after full-time ended 2-2, with the match going straight to a shootout without extra-time.

The Amazons looked to be heading to victory after Olushoa Shobowale scored twice to give them a 2-0 lead into half-time.

However, Rivers Angels responded after the break and levelled up with a dominant second half performance.

The Angels then held their nerve in the shootout to claim a milestone 10th Federation Cup triumph.

In the men’s final, Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side ended lower league side Abakaliki FC’s fairytale run with another penalty shootout victory.

Full-time ended 0-0 and the clash went straight to penalties, with Kwara United recovering from missing their first attempt to score the next four and win 4-3.

With the victory, Kwara United have secured Nigeria’s second CAF Confederation Cup ticket, with Abia Warriors having earned the first one by finishing third in the NPFL.
