National Publicity Secretary, Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, says that a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will be convened to recommend Presidential aspirant in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, for expulsion.
Speaking on ChannelsTV breakfast show, Politics Today, Abayomi Arabambi, National Publicity Secretary, Labour Party, maintained that Peter Obi is no longer welcome as a member of the party after he was deceived by what he described as a coalition of Yahoo Yahoo politicians.
He frowned at Obi’s crafty decision to belong to two different political parties at the same time, contrary to Nigeria’s constitution, stressing that Obi’s earlier suspension over anti-party activities will now trigger fresh recommendation for expulsion.
”We do not have in our party constitution, as well as INEC, what we call a caretaker. Section 222 of the Constitution states that any political party shall not be headed by any caretaker; they must be duly elected. Our party constitution is in line with that of Nigeria.
‘Secondly, we are convening an NEC meeting where he will be expelled. He was suspended before he went ahead to engage in anti-party activities. You don’t join a political party and have your leg in one party. He knows it is unconstitutional to belong to two political parties at the same time. They have been able to deceive him to their side, and there he shall remain.
‘A NEC meeting will be called shortly, where Obi will be recommended for expulsion, and that will be finally confirmed at our convention in line with most political constitutions, because you have to recommend someone who is in line with your party constitution, you go to NEC, recommend and apply for the final expulsion.
‘Obi is not a member of our party; he will be expelled from our party. It is not within his right to tell us he is still a member of LP and at the same time moving with what we call Yahoo Yahoo coalition,” Arabambi noted
It would be recalled that the opposition coalition on Wednesday formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official political platform for the 2027 elections in order to wrest power from the ruling APC.
Ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai; and a former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, among others, are leading the coalition.
