The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s recent approval of a new batch of ambassadors, describing the move as a significant step towards restoring Nigeria’s prominence in global affairs.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said the appointments signify a clear departure from what he termed years of diplomatic inertia, ushering in a phase of “strategic and assertive foreign engagement.”
Oladejo noted that the newly appointed envoys comprise “a deliberate blend of expertise, patriotism, and diplomatic depth,” reflecting Tinubu’s intention to reposition Nigeria as a confident and proactive player on the world stage.
He said the diplomats are expected to champion Nigeria’s interests abroad, strengthen bilateral relations, counter negative global perceptions, and pursue economic, technological, and security partnerships that would benefit citizens at home.
“The world will no longer relate with a hesitant or reactive Nigeria but one prepared to assert itself with dignity, clarity, and strategic purpose,” the statement read.
The APC spokesperson argued that ongoing domestic reforms in security, economic management, and governance under Tinubu’s administration would serve as the backbone of a more coherent and impactful foreign policy direction.
According to him, Nigeria is now better placed to reclaim influence within regional and continental platforms such as ECOWAS and the African Union.
He outlined several priority areas the ambassadors would be expected to advance, including enhancing counter-terrorism cooperation, strengthening economic diplomacy, promoting energy transition frameworks beneficial to Nigeria, and improving support systems for Nigerians in the diaspora.
“For years, Nigeria’s global standing was undermined by inconsistency and lack of vision,” Oladejo said. “Today, the country is projecting a unified foreign policy message backed by leadership that fully grasps its international obligations.”
Expressing confidence in the capacity of the nominees, he stated that they would help secure political, economic, and strategic advantages for the country and elevate Nigeria’s status in global diplomatic circles.
“The era of timid foreign policy is over. Nigeria is rising again, deliberately, confidently, and irreversibly,” he added.
The ambassadorial nominees are now awaiting Senate confirmation before their deployment.
