FIFTEEN people have been rescued, while five others remain missing after a boat collision in Lagos State.

Despite conflicting reports on the number of those involved, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) stated that there are currently no casualties.

In a statement released today, LASWA explained, “The collision occurred yesterday evening on the Lagos waterways at Imore, involving two vessels: ‘Only God 13’ and a wooden boat. At around 7:00 PM, ‘Only God 13,’ which was en route from Ebutte Ero to Badagry with 15 passengers, collided with a wooden boat carrying 10 passengers traveling from Alakija to Imore.”

“All 15 passengers aboard ‘Only God 13’ were safely rescued and are awaiting their belongings at the jetty. However, five passengers from the wooden boat were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment. Unfortunately, five individuals are still missing, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.”

LASWA further stated, “LASWA, LASEMA, NIWA, Marine Police, and local operators are working around the clock to locate the missing and support those affected.”

This incident comes just days after a boat capsized in Niger State, resulting in several fatalities.
