The Lagos state government has announced that it would be diverting traffic on the Lekki-Ajah corridor for road rehabilitation purposes.
The Lagos commissioner for transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the development in a statement.
According to him, repair works will commence on November 15, 2025 and end on July 15, 2026.
He explained that the rehabilitation has been divided into two segments to minimise traffic disruption.
The first phase will commence at Lekki 1st toll gate to Lekki 2nd toll gate; while the second phase will begin at Lekki 2nd toll gate and terminate at Ajah underbridge.
The government detailed that some sections of the Lekki-Ajah road will be partially closed during the period while urging commuters to be patient and follow traffic directions.
The statement reads, “The project, with preliminary works already in progress, will be carried out in two phases to minimize traffic disruption.
“Phase 1: Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate.
“Work will be done in seven (7) sections. During the construction, a lane out of the 2 lanes will be closed while motorists will use the second lane.
“When the closed lane is completed, work will shift to the other lane. During this phase, motorists going to Lekki/Ajah will have thoroughfare.
“Phase 2: Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah underbridge. Work will be done in four (4) sections. Motorists from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while repairs are ongoing on the other lane.
“When the first lane is completed, work will move to the second lane. During this phase, motorists heading towards Ajah will have continuous movement.
“Some sections of the road will be partially closed during the repair period.
“Motorists are advised to be patient and follow traffic directions. These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to improve road quality and ease traffic flow.”
