Lagos LGA stirs outrage over move to rename streets named after non-indigenes

Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government in Lagos State has caused a stir on social media over the move to allegedly kickstart the renaming of several streets named after non-indigenes of the state.

In the photo that surfaced on social media, the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local governmentnotice informed the public of revoking streets named after non-indigenes.

The notice reads, “This is to notify the general public that the old names of the aforementioned streets have been revoked. The council wishes to informs the public that the names have been replaced with new ones.”

The renaming list includes streets like Imo Eze Street, which is now Layiwola Oluwa, and George Street, which has been changed to Daddy Showkey. Other renamed streets honour figures such as Yeye Iretiola and Ayoola Fatai. The move is intended to foster a deeper connection to Yoruba heritage within the local government. 

 The development has caused a stir amongst Nigerians on social media.
