Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos Command Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society on Tuesday, performed ground breaking for 300 units of one and two bedrooms housing project in Igbehin Community, Lagos.
Speaking during the ceremony, the state Commandant of the corps, Mr Adedotun Keshinro described the development as laudable.
Keshinro noted that it was imperative that men and officers of the command have roofs over their heads based on the directive of the Commandant General (CG).
“It is not good for an officer to retire without having a house of his own. It is based on that, that the NSCDC cooperative made an effort to make the housing units possible.
“It comprises 300 units of mini flats and two bedrooms flats which will be allocated based on interest,” he said.
Earlier, President of the cooperative, Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) Kehinde Soetan, said that one of the advice of the CG, Dr Ahmed Audi was to ensure that every officer have a roof over his head.
Soetan said that the major purpose of being a member of the cooperative society was to improve one’s welfare.
He added that the housing project was a great opportunity for every member as it was affordable and had great payment plan.
He said that there were lots of benefits in the laudable project for every member and to the community at large.
“The housing agreement we signed with Youniverse is a building of 300 units but is going to be in phases.
“This one we are doing today will accommodate 149 buildings and the first 50 units will be inaugurated hopefully on Sept. 17,” he said.
Similarly, Mr Nicolas Orakwe, Managing Director, Youniverse Properties Limited said that the NSCDC cooperative estate would be predominantly for its personnel.
Orakwe said that the completion period for the one and two bedrooms flats would be within three years noting that building materials would be sourced locally.
He added that it would be fully funded by the company, and the repayment plan for officers allocated would be five years. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
