WATCH THE VIDEO HERE TRAGEDY struck in the Mushin area of Lagos State yesterday afternoon when a one-storey building under construction collapsed, leaving one person dead and three others injured. The incident occurred at 96 Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque. The South-West Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed that a body was recovered from the rubble at approximately 8:18 p.m. According to a statement from Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, a distress call was received around 3:30 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of emergency response teams. Three adult males were rescued from the site with varying degrees of injuries. They were initially treated on-site before being transported to a hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service for further medical care. Responding agencies included: Isolo Fire Station (Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Lagos State Ambulance Service and Nigeria Police Search and rescue efforts are still ongoing, with officials continuing to assess the stability of the surrounding area. The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been determined, however, investigations are currently underway. This latest incident comes just weeks after a similar tragedy in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos, where a three-storey building collapsed on Oremeta Street on April 19, resulting in one fatality and 13 rescues. That building, which housed a local eatery, also caved in during construction activities. Eyewitnesses in the Mushin case noted that the building had been undergoing work at the time of the collapse, though specific details remain unclear.
