Lagos police detain officers over ‘N3.3m extortion’ of couple

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested officers accused of extorting N3.3 million from a couple in the state.

Recall that the officers attached to Area H Command in Ogudu, allegedly arrested a couple on December 18, 2025, and forced them to pay $2,000.

It was reported that N2.2 million was refunded to the victims after the case gained public attention on X, while the officers requested to keep N1.1 million, claiming it had already been shared among other personnel.

Confirming the arrest, SP Abimbola Adebisi, police public relations officer, said the officer have summoned for probe.

“The officers involved in the alleged extortion have been identified and brought to the Command Headquarters,” Adebisi wrote on X.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the DC ‘A’ to oversee the investigation.

“The officers have given their statements, and we are awaiting the complainant to come forward to present his side of the story.”
