Laili Ali, the daughter of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, responded to Claressa Shields’ shady interviews about her with a lengthy YouTube video sharing receipts of their history.
In a recent interview with Gille Da Kid and Wallo, Shields said Ali as just “Muhammad Ali’s daughter,” and dismissed her undefeated reign as boxing champion.
In her video, Ali called out Shields for trying to praise her late father while disrespecting his daughter.
“Now, what father would embrace someone like her or want to be associated with someone like her while she’s trying to tear down his very own child?” she asked.
“You know what my father would say? She’s a generic wannabe. My father would not want to share his name or image with her. She does not represent anything about him in the ring or outside of the ring,” Ali said.
“Now, many of us, including myself, had high hopes for her. I supported her. I sent her off in the right direction, but she has become a disappointment. She is a horrible representation of both the sport and our culture.”
Ali showed receipts of her continuously praising Shields, even interviewing her and hailing her as boxing’s newest star. Shields appeared to take offense to an interview Ali did with The Breakfast Club, where she told the radio hosts that she didn’t see anyone worth coming out of retirement to fight.
