Sen. Simon Lalong (APC-Plateau South) has expressed deep sadness over the demise of Former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Lalong, the former governor of Plateau, said this in a condolence message on Monday in Jos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buhari, 82 died on Sunday at a London Hospital, after a protracted illness.
Lalong further described the death of the former Nigerian leader as a monumental loss to the nation.
“This is a huge loss to our nation because the former leader committed his life working for the unity, peace and prosperity of Nigeria.
“He lived a life of service, patriotism, integrity and sacrifice throughout his years of public service.
“As both military and democratic leader, Buhari demonstrated his confidence and passion for the nation
“As governor of Plateau, I enjoyed a close working relationship with the deceased,”he said
On his part, retired Brig.-Gen. John Temlong, said that Buhari was a patriotic and committed military officer.
He said that the former Nigerian leader played a key role towards the unity of Nigeria, particularly during the civil war.
“He lead from the front during the war and ensuring the unity and progress of this country.
“He played critical role as minister of petroleum and midwived the establishment of the then Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC).
“His war against indisciplined was loud and clear; he was not without faults but his legacies will outlive us,”he said.
Also, Mr Yakubu Datti, the former Commisioner for Information in Plateau, said that the former president left a lasting legacy of restoring democracy and ensuring a levelled playing ground for democracy to thrive.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
