Larry Hoover Jr. Thanks Kanye West As Trump Commutes His Father’s Prison Sentence

MTO Square

Larry Hoover Jr., the son of the infamous founder of Chicago’s Gangster Disciples, has thanked Kanye West for helping to secure a commutation of his father’s sentence from President Donald Trump.

“It started a long time ago with Kanye. Kanye put us on the platform,” Hoover Jr. told TMZ. “[Ye] had a very big part because he started it all off. He put us on the platform. He took us to the White House on his platform when he didn’t have to do that.”

Hoover, who was locked up at the notorious ADX Florence supermax prison in Colorado, had been serving six life sentences on federal racketeering charges. His pardon does not mean he will be free to walk away from prison anytime soon.

According to Jennifer Bonjean, Hoover’s attorney, the commutation only applies to his federal time. Hoover is still staring down a 200-year state sentence tied to a 1973 murder conviction in Chicago and will likely be transferred to an Illinois prison to continue serving that time.
