The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has announced that it has received 11,101 consumer complaints since its establishment in March 2018, resolving 10,474 cases, while 437 remain under processing and 197 have been referred to relevant agencies.
According to the agency, these interventions have led to recoveries valued at ₦530,266,592.31 and $14,901.80 for consumers across multiple sectors, including electricity, automobiles, banking, healthcare, telecommunications, insurance, logistics, hospitality, food and beverages, as well as oil and gas.
The General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., disclosed this at the maiden edition of the Consumer Service Week and Award Ceremony held on September 30, 2025, at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.
Solebo highlighted that the agency has carried out several enforcement operations across supermarkets, open markets, and retail outlets to rid Lagos of expired and hazardous products. He added that LASCOPA has also intensified consumer education campaigns in partnership with NYSC, schools, trade associations, market leaders, and community groups, to equip residents with the knowledge and confidence to assert their consumer rights.
He explained that the Consumer Service Week and Award Day was designed to celebrate excellence, transparency, and fairness, while recognising individuals, government bodies, private sector operators, civil society, the media, and compliant businesses for their contributions to promoting fair trade and consumer protection.
“Today, we are not only appreciating stakeholders but also reflecting on the remarkable progress we have made together in ensuring Lagos remains a safe and fair marketplace for all,” Solebo said.
While expressing pride in the agency’s achievements so far, he reaffirmed LASCOPA’s commitment to intensifying enforcement, embracing innovation, and deepening collaborations to tackle emerging consumer challenges in a fast-changing marketplace.
Solebo concluded by restating the agency’s mission to build a Lagos where consumer rights are respected, businesses thrive on integrity, and residents enjoy safety, fairness, and value.
