Tragedy struck the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) as one of its directors, Mrs Serifat Olubukola Talabi, died in a road accident just four days before her scheduled retirement and 60th birthday celebration.

Talabi, who served as LASRRA’s Director of Procurement, was reportedly knocked down by a vehicle on October 18, 2025, while crossing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) camp in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.

Before her untimely death, Talabi had already printed invitation cards for a joint Thanksgiving, Retirement, and 60th Birthday celebration slated for October 22, 2025, at the NERDC Conference Centre, NERDC Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

In a statement on Tuesday, LASRRA said it was still reeling from the devastating news.

The agency’s spokesperson, Basirat Lawal, described Talabi’s death as a painful blow to the organisation.

“We are still in shock after receiving the news. She came to the office on Friday. Everything was set for her retirement on October 22, 2025. She was supposed to retire on October 13, 2025, when she clocked 60, but our General Manager, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, was not around, so we postponed it to October 22, 2025. The agency will attend her burial,” Lawal said.

Talabi was posted to LASRRA in 2018 and rose through the ranks before being appointed Director in 2025.
