Laverne Cox had fans buzzing this week after dropping an unexpected revelation about her dating past.
Earlier this week, the Orange Is the New Black star opened up about a former four-year relationship with a “blonde-haired, blue-eyed, MAGA Republican voter” who was also a New York City police officer.
“We were madly in love,” Cox said in the clip. “I did not develop any of his politics, I still have my own.”

The video went viral, with followers stunned that the openly trans, progressive activist could fall for someone on the ideological opposite side.
Cox later took to Instagram Live to explain the relationship’s origins, revealing that they met on Tinder, and she had no idea he was a cop or conservative because he had told her he worked in a different field.
By the time she discovered the truth, they were already emotionally attached. “I wanted to see if it was possible to have a relationship with someone with different political beliefs,” she shared. “I fell in love with a human being… and the good things were so good that I was willing to work with the politics I didn’t agree with.”
She eventually broke things off, adding, “Lines had to be drawn. I had to set boundaries.”
She then addressed the backlash, “I’m not going to hate people. I don’t believe in that.”
