The lawmaker representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Nkemkanma Kama, has formally resigned from the Labour Party (LP).

Naijaonpoint reports that Kama announced his decision in a letter addressed to the ward chairman of the party in Amaze Ward, Ishiagu Community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He explained that his decision followed wide consultations with his family, political associates, and other stakeholders.

According to him, after much reflection, leaving the party was the right move for the interest of his constituents.

“After extensive consultations with my immediate family members, political associates, and other well-wishers, I have resolved to resign my membership of the Labour Party. I believe this step is necessary for the greater good of my people,” Kama said.

The lawmaker, who was elected in 2023 on the LP platform, expressed gratitude to the party for giving him the opportunity to serve.

“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Labour Party for the platform given to me to contest and win the last general election as the House of Representatives member under its banner,” he wrote.

However, Kama did not disclose his next political destination. However, there are strong indications he may defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His exit comes amid a wave of defections linked to the leadership crisis that has continued to rock the Labour Party at the national level.
