Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has urged Samuel Chukwueze to prioritise an exit from AC Milan to secure a regular call-up to the Super Eagles squad, Soccernet.ng reports.

The ex-Villarreal CF forward has not had much of a playing time with the Rossoneri since his arrival in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Chukwueze has struggled to establish himself as a regular with just four goals in 47 Serie A games, which has limited his minutes and dipped his form significantly.

Speaking on the situation, Martins weighed in on his regular playing time and suggested a move to a team where he can easily shine.

“The Saudi Pro League is becoming increasingly competitive. If a good offer comes along, why not? The main thing is for him to play and become a regular starter again. Rhythm and confidence are essential for him.” he said, as cited by Africa Foot.

Martins, who enjoyed a successful club and international career, believes Chukwueze’s dip in form at club level has begun to affect his impact with the Super Eagles:

“His decline in form at club level is reflected in his performances with the Super Eagles. He absolutely must regain his rhythm if he wants to continue to be a driving force for Nigeria. A transfer is a necessity if he wants to retain his place and perform well in the national team.”

Chukwueze, still only 25, has time on his side, but with the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament and World Cup preparations, regular playing time is crucial to being called up.
