If you’re actively using Steam, you should occasionally peruse the free game and demo section. If you’re not on Steam, you probably want to start perusing free games regardless, as there’s a ton of hidden gems on it ready to be downloaded.
That includes this extremely Zelda-looking title on Steam that was only recently released, and isn’t on a lot of people’s radar yet. Aesthetically, it looks very similar to Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but its RPG/action-style combat also warrants a lot more similarities.
Cloudheim Has A Touch Of Zelda About It

Cloudheim just dropped in Early Access on Steam, and it looks gorgeous. This is a 1-4 player action RPG where the world-ending event of Ragnarök has shattered the game’s universe, forcing you to create a new one. Described as sporting a “chaotic physics-based” combat system, this is a tried and true RPG that has a lot of inspiration from Zelda, one of the first popular entries in the genre.
The real draw behind Cloudheim is the visual style, though. The game looks gorgeous, and although you can definitely see some of the modern Zelda influences, making it a game with literal cloud motifs based on Norse mythology is a nice touch. It’s reminiscent enough without copying Nintendo’s homework, and it comes through in the game’s aesthetics. I’m also a sucker for floating islands in basically anything, so there’s that.
If you have a four-player squad and are itching for a new action-RPG, this might be it. The idea of “combo-driven combat” really speaks to me personally, especially since the game’s clips showcase juggling and other character-action mechanics. When you add co-op into the mix with all those ingredients, you really have a stew going.
Cloudheim Is Free To Try On Steam Now

Although Cloudheim is currently in Early Access as a paid release (with a sale running through December 18), it’s also completely free to try with an official demo. Said demo has 15 playable characters available, as well as the full tutorial, the ability to establish a base, four classes, and the power to play through Acts 1 and 2 of the main quest. It’s pretty beefy all things considered.
As some of us hunker down during the holidays, Cloudheim looks like a great co-op romp to play with friends and cozy up. Plus, you can pet cats in it. Although there’s no timeline given for when Cloudheim might exit early access, the official Steam page is a great place to follow to get updates directly from the developer.
