Ever since Resident Evil Requiem was announced, fans have only wanted to know one thing: will series staple Leon S. Kennedy make an appearance? The ninth mainline game in Capcom’s long-running series will star FBI agent Grace Ashcroft as its lead. Ever since its announcement, though, fans have been speculating that recurring RE star Leon will be playable in the upcoming title.

Sony may have accidentally finally revealed the answer months ahead of the game’s release. A Portuguese-language listing for RE9 Deluxe on the PS Store, spotted by Dusk Golem on X, includes a special costume for Leon as part of the Deluxe version. This accidental leak is a pretty strong indication that Leon will appear in the upcoming RE Requiem as a playable character.

Leon Will Be Sporting A Familiar Look

The accidental leak was hidden in the Portuguese-language listing for the Deluxe Edition of Resident Evil Requiem. A translation of the page reveals that getting the Deluxe edition rewards players with five exclusive outfits, including a special costume for Leon.

More specifically, Leon’s Deluxe outfit is DSO Special Agent, which seems to be a throwback to Leon’s look in Resident Evil 6. Though there’s no accompanying image, judging by the name, the outfit in question is Leon’s leather Division of Security Operations (DSO) jacket from Resident Evil 6.

Some comments on Dusk Golem’s discovery point out that the fine print on the page states that “this outfit only changes Grace’s appearance.” However, this line seems to be referring specifically to Grace’s special preorder outfit, Apocalypse.

Many Predict Capcom Will Make An Announcement Soon

In a June Capcom Spotlight, the game’s director Koshi Nakanishi denied that Leon would be the game’s protagonist because he’s “actually quite a bad match for horror.” This hasn’t stopped fans from hoping that the beloved character would return as a side character or a secondary playable character (and therefore, not a “protagonist.”)

The outfit also doesn’t necessarily mean Leon will be playable, and could instead appear as an NPC. Still, the inclusion of an alternate outfit for Leon heavily implies that he’ll appear as a playable character, as many fans have been predicting since more details about Requiem were revealed earlier this year.

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to release in February 2026, but many expect a Leon confirmation to happen sooner than that. Now that this leak has potentially let the cat out of the bag early, it’s possible Capcom is preparing to make an official reveal.
