Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, has addressed the persistent rumours linking him to a potential return to Real Madrid, emphasizing that his complete focus remains on his current role with the German club.

Despite the speculation, Alonso acknowledged the deep, enduring connection he shares with the La Liga side, where he enjoyed a celebrated playing career.

Recent reports surfaced suggesting that Carlo Ancelotti, the current head coach of Real Madrid, might depart from his position at the end of the season.

Although sources indicate that Ancelotti feels quite content at the Santiago Bernabéu, there is a growing sense that he is eager for a new challenge outside of Spain, which has fueled the speculation regarding Alonso’s potential candidacy.

When confronted by journalists about these emerging links to Real Madrid, Alonso responded with a light-hearted comment, saying, “Already questions on Real Madrid?! [laughs] Time goes by, but the affection remains.”

He reinforced that while his ties with the Madrid-based club are undeniably strong, his priorities are wholly centred on Bayer Leverkusen, stating, “Our bond is very strong, that is clear, but my total focus is on Bayer Leverkusen now; that’s in my mind.”

Alonso has made significant strides in his coaching career, especially after leading Bayer Leverkusen to an impressive Bundesliga title last season, accomplishing the feat without recording a single defeat throughout the campaign.

Additionally, he guided the team to the Europa League final, showcasing their competitiveness on the European stage, although they faced a setback there, losing 3-0 to Atalanta. As he continues to build on this success, Alonso remains dedicated to nurturing and developing his current squad at Leverkusen.
