FORMER Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has today commended the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers state, asserting that the electorate are committed to rejecting oppression.

Following a tense electoral process, the Action Peoples Party (APP) had victory in 22 out of 23 local government areas, while the Action Alliance (AA) won only one, in Etche.

With the local government elections in Rivers State now complete, the atmosphere of political intimidation and judicial manipulation has lifted, allowing for a sincere focus on governance to begin.

Responding to the results, Atiku commended the citizens of the oil-rich state for their “steadfastness in the face of adversity, ensuring that the election was conducted peacefully and with integrity.”

“As anticipated, it has become clear that the people of Rivers are discerning and resolute, firmly rejecting any form of political oppression, harassment, or the schemes of self-interested leaders,” he remarked.

In extending his heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected local government officials, he urged them to prioritize the welfare of the people as their highest virtue and to steer clear of tyranny and misguided ambitions in their political actions.
