Reality TV star and influencer, Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has stirred widespread reactions online after opening up about the financial struggles many Nigerians face while living in the United Kingdom.
In a now-viral video, the former Big Brother Naija housemate—who currently resides in the UK—challenged the common belief among Nigerians at home that everyone living abroad is automatically wealthy.
“You people in Nigeria who suffer from inferiority complex and think everyone abroad is rich—most of them are broke,” she said. “Some of the most financially struggling people I’ve met are here in the UK. Everyone is just managing. It’s expensive.”
Tacha highlighted the rising cost of living in the UK as a key factor contributing to the hardship faced by immigrants. She emphasized that the reality of life overseas is far from the glamorous image often portrayed on social media.
“Trust me, the living situation here is not rosy. In fact, a lot of people in Nigeria are doing better financially than those living here,” she stated.
She urged Nigerians planning to relocate to do so with a realistic mindset and full awareness of the financial demands involved.
“If you want to move, by all means, do it—but don’t come with the mindset that everything is rosy. You could easily spend ₦300,000 on just a taxi in one day, or ₦1 million on a car in a week—unless you want to rely on the train. Think carefully before making your decision,” she warned.
Tacha’s candid remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with many praising her honesty, while others questioned her claims.
