Lil Durk’s family has spoken out after prosecutors used his lyrics in a murder-for-hire case, calling them “false evidence.”

In a statement released April 29, the family accused the government of misleading the grand jury by using his music to justify an indictment: “Durk has always used music to tell stories—and now those same lyrics are being used against him. This isn’t justice.”

The rapper, real name Durk Banks, is accused of placing a bounty on rival rapper Quando Rondo, leading to a 2023 shooting in L.A. that killed Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab. The bounty was reportedly put on Rondo’s head after the shooting death of Durk’s artist and close friend, King Von.

Durk’s lawyers say the lyrics cited were written months before the killing and had no connection to fan-made videos prosecutors referenced.

“The internet users who posted the videos…are apparent ‘fan pages’ maintained by people with no affiliation to Mr. Banks or Only the Family, Inc,” the filing reads. “It is unfair, misleading, and just flat-out wrong for the government to suggest that Mr. Banks is responsible for these video/audio edits or that they evidence his purported commercialization of a murder that he supposedly ordered.”

The family called on fans to support him: “Stand for truth. Stand for fairness. Stand for The Voice.”
