The manager for Chelsea, Enzo Maresca, is reportedly prepared to approve the sale of at least five players from the squad when the January transfer window opens.

It is worth noting that since he arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer, Maresca has been focused on reducing the number of players at his disposal.

As reported by BBC Sport, the list of players available for transfer is led by Ben Chilwell, who was not sold during the summer transfer window.

Chilwell, who transferred to Chelsea from Leicester City for £50 million in 2020, has found himself sidelined and has made only one appearance this season, which was in the 5-0 victory over Barrow in the Carabao Cup.

Naijaonpoint understands that the England international still has two and a half years remaining on his £200,000-per-week contract, complicating any potential mid-season transfer.

Maresca has opted for Marc Cucurella, Malo Gusto, and Renato Veiga over Chilwell for the left-back position.

Chelsea may also face challenges in offloading Carney Chukwuemeka, as they have set a £40 million asking price for the midfielder.

Chukwuemeka joined from Aston Villa for £20 million in 2022 and has made only 32 appearances, with five of those occurring this season, all in the Carabao Cup or Conference League.

Cesare Casadei is drawing interest from Feyenoord and Monza, as the Italian seeks more first-team opportunities and will only be permitted to leave on loan.

Harvey Vale is approaching the final six months of his contract and appears likely to depart Chelsea in January. The 21-year-old has recorded nine goals and nine assists in 15 matches for the U-21 team this season.

Additionally, Alex Matos, a 20-year-old central midfielder, is another candidate for a January exit.

The player spent the latter half of last season on loan at Huddersfield and is not included in Maresca’s plans.

Naijaonpoint reports that Chelsea currently sits in 4th place on the English Premier League table, with 10 points behind league leaders, Liverpool.
