Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, among other players, has been nominated for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year award…
Several African stars deliver outstanding performances across the top 10 leagues in Europe and beyond in the 2024-25 season campaign, Soccernet.ng reports.
Among the standout contenders is Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, who headlines the top three favourites for the coveted honour alongside Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, who dons the colours of Galatasaray.
Each player has enjoyed a remarkable season—from Salah in the Premier League triumph with Liverpool, to Hakimi’s trophy-laden campaign in France, and Osimhen’s double-winning run in Turkey—which sets the stage for a fierce CAF Awards showdown later this year.
Who Are the Top Three Favourites to Win the CAF 2025 POTY?
Achraf Hakimi (Morocco & Paris Saint-Germain)
Hakimi enjoyed a sensational season with PSG, where he established himself as one of the best right-backs in the world.
The Moroccan defender played a central role in PSG’s quadruple-winning campaign, helping the club lift the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup.
With no doubt, Hakimi’s attacking influence has been immense, scoring and creating goals from the back. His consistency at both club and international level puts him among the strongest favourites for the CAF crown this year.
Victor Osimhen (Nigeria & Galatasaray)
Osimhen’s first full season in Turkey was explosive. The Super Eagles striker powered Galatasaray to a domestic double, winning both the Turkish Super League and the Turkish Cup, while contributing an impressive number of goals and assists along the way.

While his league might not carry the same global spotlight as England or France, Osimhen’s quality, impact on the pitch makes him the favourites for the award.
Mohamed Salah (Egypt & Liverpool)
Salah continues to show why he’s one of Africa’s greatest exports. The Egyptian forward led Liverpool to the Premier League title and reached the Carabao Cup final, where he delivered an impressive performance.

With 34 goals and 25 assists across all competitions, Salah’s influence on Liverpool’s success was immense. His ability to perform consistently at the highest level year after year has kept him in the CAF Player of the Year conversation — and this season, he has a genuine shot at reclaiming the award he last won in 2018.
