Liverpool weigh up £60m offer for Super Eagles star as Luis Diaz exit links grow

Six-time UEFA Champions League winners, Liverpool, are considering placing a £60m offer for Super Eagles and Atalanta star, Ademola Olajade Lookman, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old attacker was voted as the 2024 African Player of the Year, and has justified the prize with 15 goals and six assists in 28 games across all competitions for Atalanta this season.

However, Lookman looks set to be on his way out after falling out with Atalanta boss, Gian Piero Gasperini, over a penalty miss in their UEFA Champions League clash against Club Brugge.

Last summer, Paris Saint-Germain showed interest in Ademola Lookman, but nothing concrete happened. As per PSG Talk, the former RB Leipzig winger is open to a new challenge, sparking speculation about a potential move in the winter transfer window.

West Ham United are also keen on the signature of the Super Eagles star, with Atalanta reportedly asking for more a fee of around £60m.

According to Spanish outlet, Fichajes, Lookman is on Liverpool’s radar should Luis Diaz leave Anfield in the summer.

Arne Slot’s side are aware that the Colombian’s departure is a real possibility, with multiple teams showing interest in him, most notably Barcelona, who have had Raphinha playing out of position due to the absence of a prominent left winger in the side.

Diaz on the other hand, has been ousted on the left flank due to Cody Gakpo’s brilliant form. The former Porto man has had to compete with Diogo Jota, and Darwin Núñez for starting spots in the number nine position at Anfield.

As a result, the club’s sporting management are exploring options in the market, and Lookman is a strong candidate. The Super Eagles star fits the profile they’re looking for – a technically gifted quick winger who’s skillful and can take on defenders.

Additionally, Lookman’s experience in the English Premier League is considered as a plus by the Liverpool hierarchy, but ultimately, a move banks on the exit of Luis Diaz.
