Lizzo’s legal team is calling for a judge to dismiss a “meritless” lawsuit alleging discrimination and wrongful termination against her.

In the court documents, her attorneys insist that former wardrobe assistant Asha Daniels is a “brazen liar” and has a personal vendetta against Lizzo, her production company, her wardrobe manager, Amanda Nomura, and her tour manager, Carlina Gugliotta.

Daniels first came forward in September 2023 with serious allegations against Lizzo’s team, claiming she endured racist and fat-phobic comments while working on the European leg of the singer’s Special Tour. In her complaint, Daniels said she was denied medical care and subjected to a toxic work environment that left her with anxiety and PTSD. She described the experience as a “culture of racism and bullying” behind the scenes of the high-profile tour.

“We fully expected the defense to file a motion to dismiss. We also fully expect the judge to deny the motion, and we look forward to taking this case to trial and winning,” Ron Zambrano said in a statement.

“The motion is meritless, and the defense knows it, but their modus operandi is to treat all lawsuits as having no grounds to proceed by repeatedly blaming the victim. It won’t work.”
