Breakups are extremely common on reality dating shows, and now there’s yet another one after a Love Island USA relationship came to an end. Peacock recently streamed the Love Island USA season 7 reunion, which brought the Islanders back together after a finale that saw Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales walk away as the winning couple.

Love Island USA season 7 had its fair share of headaches for producers to deal with, like the removals of Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega after racial slurs they made on social media resurfaced. At the end of the day, though, Love Island is a dating show, and season 7 crowned a new pair of winners.

Unfortunately, Amaya and Bryan broke up a mere two days after the Love Island USA season 7 reunion was released on Peacock, according to a stunning Instagram Story update from Amaya. She explained that after she and Bryan entered the real world as a couple, they realized they weren’t meant for each other and that their visions didn’t align.

Amaya believes that relationships should be a “team sport,” but her relationship with Bryan didn’t feel that way. She wrapped up her Instagram Story by clarifying that she wished nothing but the best for Bryan.

“My papayas – Bryan and I are no longer together. After leaving the villa, it became very clear that we were on two different journeys. Our visions didn’t align and relationships are suppose[d] to be a team sport. You don’t have to drink the whole sea to know it’s salty. All love here and I truly wish him the best. – Amaya Papaya.”

What Amaya & Bryan’s Breakup Means For Love Island USA

Love Island USA airs in nearly real time, so viewers get the chance to see how the Islanders’ relationships unfold as they’re happening. Throughout Love Island USA season 7, there were controversial contestants taking attention away from the real focus of the show.

Aside from the two cast members who were removed, Huda Mustafa’s behavior caused a lot of reactions from fans, both positive and very negative.

All of that is a distraction from what Love Island is supposed to shine a light on, which is the fact that this show is a dating experiment. Amaya and Bryan’s bond never guaranteed them long-term success, of course, but fans are always hopeful that a relationship like theirs will work out.

Since it didn’t, the bar is once again lowered for next season, with not much hope for a successful pairing.

Despite that hope of a successful relationship, there were red flags surrounding Bryan, in particular, during the reunion. Bryan faced cheating accusations, and Amaya claimed that their relationship was still healthy.

Since the reunion was filmed a couple weeks before its release, Amaya and Bryan’s relationship was likely already struggling by that point.

Maybe the Love Island USA winners thought they could work through their issues and didn’t want to give the impression they were on the verge of splitting up. Either way, another dating reality show breakup doesn’t come as a surprise, but it is disappointing to see nonetheless.
