Love the Energy! – Afrobeats Superstar Wizkid laps up new Super Eagles squad

Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats Superstar, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has thrown in his arm of support for the Super Eagles, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian Football Federation appointed Eric Chelle as the head coach of the Super Eagles in the first week of January, handing the Malian the task of leading the three-time AFCON Champions to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after they missed out on the 2022 edition of the biggest football tournament on the globe.

Ahead of Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Friday, Wizkid, who’s an avid football fan, revealed on his X page, that he likes the energy around Eric Chelle’s squad.

The Essence crooner is one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports. He has accrued over a billion worth of streams of his music across several platforms.

Still, he has some sort of football DNA in him. In 2023, ahead of his More Love, Less Ego concert at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Wizkid was seen showing off his football skills.

Wizkid’s support will be a massive boost for the Super Eagles stars who are big fans of his music on all grounds. Alex Iwobi was seen at his concert a few years back.

When Will Nigeria play?

Nigeria will trade tackles with Rwanda in Kigali on March 21 before returning to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo to lock horns with Zimbabwe four days later.

The two games are must-win fixtures for the Super Eagles, who have endured a torrid start to the World Cup qualifying campaign.
